Sport's Day and Creative Clay Modelling

Another wonderful week has come to an end. On Wednesday, it was Sport's Day. Everyone did such a fantastic job in the sprints, egg and spoon, sack and relay races. Well done! You all showed superb sportsmanship and we enjoyed cheering on the whole school.

We have continued our enquiry 'Does Polperro Always Stay the Same?' by exploring photographic evidence to see what Polperro was like in the past and comparing this to the Polperro we know today. The children were surprised by the differences and were able to recognise the harbour and old pilchard warehouse. In Science, we looked at rocks and grouped these based on their appearance and in Art we experimented with different techniques to model clay; by practising flattening, cutting and using tools to add detail. We will build on this to eventually make our own clay pilchards.

In English, we have been writing our own poetry and creating performances with our peers. We have worked hard on demonstrating our understanding of rhythm, rhyme and repetition.

Maths has been focussed on Time, which can often be a challenge. However, all the children have persevered with reading the time and are enjoying applying their knowledge throughout the school day.

Congratulations to Alfie and Amber for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week and a big well done to Iylah for achieving her 66 club badge.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.

TALLAND'S BLOG 27.6.25

It's been a highly active week this week and we've absolutely loved it! We started off by beating Pelynt 10:1 on Monday - well done to the boys who partook in that match and who have played throughout the season. You should all be proud of yourselves! Especially as I'm very happy to confirm that we are the official League Cup Champions! Bridge School Games was only last week and everyone performed brilliantly. The sportsman ship and determination were fantastic. They learnt the art of triple jump yesterday and we were practicing dolphin kick and butterfly in the pool today... I LOVE A SPORTY WEEK!

Maths:
Year 5 have just finished their unit on Statistics where they have learnt to read data and graphs. They are now moving onto Shape, which is always a nice topic.

Year 4 have completed their unit of Position and Direction and have moved onto solving problems with money.

English:
We have created wanted posters about the cruel and evil giant, Comoran and have been describing his appearance for the police. We've also looked at the features of good fictional stories involving giants to identify what we will need to include in our own stories.

Computing:
We are back, looking at the Mars Rover, but the Mars Rover 2 this time. We've delved into pixels and what they do to produce the picture from the digital lens. The children ended up designing some great pixel images on an excel spreadsheet.

RE:
Talland had a look at baptism today and now understand why people get christened and realise why they need a font, water, a candle, god parents and other important components that compliment this special day.

CONRATULATIONS to Tabbi for being noticed this week for her kind attitude towards younger children and making sure that they feel happy and content during lunch times. It made me really proud to witness it... well done!

That's all from us in Talland this week. We hope you have  a fabulous weekend and can't wait to see you all on Monday.

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

It's been a busy and exciting week in Penhallow!

We had a fantastic Sports Day on Wednesday. Everyone took part with enthusiasm and showed brilliant sportsmanship - well done, team!

On Friday, we enjoyed our usual swimming session, which is always lots of fun and a great way to build confidence in the water. In English, we've completed our lighthouse stories. The children worked so hard, and the results are wonderful - full of creativity and imagination. In Maths, Year 1 will be learning all about money next week - we're looking forward to exploring coins, notes, and how we use them. We've also been using the iPads on Friday afternoons to complete our PSHE and Computing work - the children are really enjoying using technology to support their learning. Please don't forget about our exciting up coming trip to Looe Island on Tuesday.

Have a lovely weekend!

It was great to see so many of you at sports day on Wednesday - thank you for coming. We were very proud of the way the children joined in, competed and supported each other and of the Year 6 leaders who ran the morning so well. There will be photos on the class blogs later.

We added up the house points from the sports day races and awarded others to pupils for exceptional effort, enthusiasm and determination. The final scores were Ash 64; Chestnut 65; Willow 78 and Oak 99. Congratulations Oak!

Football Success On Monday our football team played against Pelynt in the League where they played their best match of the season. They worked together as a team, attacking and defending as one. Player of the match was Harry. Final score: Polperro 10 - Pelynt 1. And even better news - we have just heard that Polperro has won the League, having won all five of their matches. Go team Polperro! A well-deserved result.

FOPS Summer Fair - Monday 21st July at 2pm Reminder that this Monday 30th June will be a MUFTI day where we will be asking for donations of an item matching your child's house team colour to create hampers for raffle prizes. Children can wear their own clothes and this could include wearing their house colour. If you would like to help out on the day of the Summer Fair, please let us know.

The Summer Reading Challenge: Story Garden is a fun, free way to help children keep up their reading skills over the long summer break. Just six books over the holidays can make a huge difference to your child's confidence and enjoyment of reading. • Sign up for FREE at your local Cornwall Library from Saturday 5th July or at the school gate after school on Thursday 10th July • Fun stickers, rewards and events • Open to all 4-11-year-olds of all reading levels - there are resources for children with dyslexia and visual impairments.

Another week has gone by and Chaipel have been busy. We have been writing poetry on the theme of Cornish poet Charles Causley's I AM THE SONG. We have some incredible emotive sentences:  I am the breeze that cools the Earth (Elsie), I am the personality that forms the mind (Joel) I am the fuel that ignites the flame (Aria) I am the ink that composes the word (Harry), I am the word that determines the sentence (Kora) to name but a few.

In Maths, the Y5s have been going back over key arithmetic skills such as long multiplication, division and have been introduced to the technical process of long division. Y6s are still on their travel project, looking at budgeting and identifying best value for money deals.

In our wider curriculum learning, Chaipel have been identifying the mining towns and villages in Cornwall and what types of mining they were famous for. In French, they have been identifying and ordering different foods and beverages and in swimming this week, Chaipel have been perfecting their underwater gliding. In Science, we have been investigating friction and for RE, we have been learning about values and what are import to us as both individuals and part of a wider community.

On Wednesday we had our Sports Day and it was a huge success. The Y6s were fab at organising and running the events and everybody gave their races 100%.

It's our Y6 Residential next week and we are really looking forward to it! Please make sure all medical forms are back in on Monday.

That's all from us so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday!

We have had a busy week exploring under the sea and finishing craft relating to this. The children have been exploring the under the sea tuft tray and making jellyfish.
We have enjoyed some sunny weather this week and have been making the most of this by practicing sports day on the field and exploring the nursery garden.

At story time we have enjoyed under the sea stories and the big children who are going to school soon enjoyed going into reception class to join them for a story before lunch.

The children have enjoyed carrying out different phonics activities including looking for initial sounds in the sand tray, going on a listening walk and blending sounds together to form words.

It was sports day on Wednesday and we were incredibly proud of the children for their great running. They all did a fab job.

We hope you all have a good weekend.

Hello everyone!

It’s been a very sporty week in Penhallow this week. We managed a swimming session on Wednesday, The Bridge School Games on Thursday, and a sports day practice on Friday.

For The Bridge School Games, we competed in 5 different events, and recorded our scores, which will be compared with other bridge schools. We competed in events such as throwing, catching, balancing and collecting tennis balls. All events were tennis themed and we had great fun.

We have also been busy this week, writing a recount, based our experiences at The Polperro Festival. We were so proud of the children. First of all, for exemplary behaviour whilst watching the other performances, but most of all for performing so well in front of an audience. Some children stood in for others at the last minute, and we all worked as a team to do the best we could. Well done Penhallow! We hope you enjoyed it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Another week has gone by already!

On Tuesday, we performed at the Polperro festival. The children were fantastic and did so well during our performance. Well done! You are all SUPERSTARS!

This week has been the Bridge School Games, so we have been very active exploring different Wimbledon inspired activities. We have also been practising for Sports Day, which we can’t wait for!

In English, we have been enjoying performance poetry and loved performing Michael Rosen’s ‘The Rhythm of Life’. We collaborated to write our own versions too, influenced by nature, the sea, even school! We will finish writing these next week and creating a short performance for our peers.

Congratulations to Amelia and Lowen J for being chosen as Landaviddy’s People of the Week.

Please ensure you bring in your PE and swimming kits next week.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

What a lovely week we have had. Polperro Festival was a huge success, on Tuesday, and our performance was amazing! We had so much positive feedback from the general public, it made all the hard work in the run-up to the day worth while. Thank you to Hamish and Harry for stepping in at the last minute to cover roles and to Joel who had full control of the microphone as a very convincing Henry Tudor!

It has been Bridge School Games week and we have been busy taking part for our school. It was fun to try out all of the challenges and try to improve our scores to be the best we can be. Fingers crossed!

We enjoyed a trip to The Box for our Evolution, Adaptation and Inheritance workshop on Friday. The workshop organiser was blown away at how much we knew and we in turn learnt a lot about how mammoths and beetles have adapted and then gave use food for thought in how beetles may need to adapt in light of Climate Change.

Next week, Chaipel will be practising for our Sports Day on Wednesday (10am - 12pm) where we will be competing in our classes for our House Teams.

We have a Mufti Day

That's all from me so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

TALLAND'S CLASS BLOG

WOWZERS... What a busy week we've had and I've absolutely loved it - I hope Talland has too. They did such an amazing job at Polperro Festival. I thought their performance, both acting and singing were an absolute triumph! Chaos and fun - just the way us Tallander's like it! We've also had the Bridge School Games, where children competed against themselves in numerous Wimbledon based challenges and each individual tried to earn more points for Polperro. It was wonderful to see them cheering each other on. Team spirit was at an all time high! We've also been swimming and practicing for sports day - the relay team is now ready!

On top of all of this...
Maths:
Year 5 have been looking at statistics, where we have delved into reading and interpreting line graphs.
Year 4 have been translating shapes during their position and movement unit.

English:
We have begun to look at Comoran vs Jack the Giant Killer for our narrative based writing. This also links nicely for our trip to St. Michael's mount. This is where this myth originated! We've realised that there are items we need to look out for whilst we're there - including the Giant's heart.

History:
We have begun looking at the life of Ibraham Kingdom Brunel and his amazing accomplishments. Talland all realised that he was the one who designed the The Royal Albert Bridge, which was a cool fact.

RE:
We went on a journey in RE and thought about our life and what journey we have all been on so far! That led to discussions of where might our journey through life take us. It was really interesting hearing the children's different stories.

CONGRATULATIONS to Isabelle for being noticed for her hard work this week and well done to Tabbi, Arnie and Thomas for earning their next badge in 99 club.

That's all from us. We hope you have an amazing weekend and can't wait to see you on Monday.

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

We are exploring under the sea and answering our enquiry question "Who lives under the sea?" over the next few weeks.
The children have enjoyed exploring and learning about different creatures that live in the water and have made some paper plate fish and some sponge painted shark silhouettes.
The children have been busy developing their fine manipulative skills by rolling out clay and using the cutter to make fish. They then decorated them to make their very own rainbow fish like in the story.

At story time we have been reading the story of "Rainbow fish" and "Mr Seahorse" and we have enjoyed exploring non fiction books and naming different sea creatures.

In phonics,  we have been practicing our speech sounds, matching objects to initial sounds and using mirrors to explore the way our mouths and tongues move as we make different sounds with them.

In maths we have been exploring repeats such as repetitive stories or songs e.g. Twinkl, Twinkl or "Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me i'm the gingerbread man". We have been making patterns such as lines.

Just a reminder that it is sports day next Wednesday 25th June at 10am. Nursery will be running the first race at 10am, hope to see you all there!

Have a lovely weekend

It was lovely to see so many of you at the Polperro Festival on Tuesday. Thank you for coming and being part of a really special day. Please see the class blogs for photos.

The children have had a busy, sporty week, doing each activity for the Bridge School Games  and practising for Sports Day next Wednesday 25th June from 10-12:00. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is in on the day. We look forward to seeing you there. Please come into the school via the field gate. T

Garden Update Everything is growing really well in the greenhouse thanks to the hard work of our volunteers Mr and Mrs Peters and Gardening Club children with Miss Randle, Mrs Wilkie and Mrs Fitzsimmons. You are invited to look round the garden during our school fair (see below).

FOPS Summer Fair – Monday 21st July at 2pm FOPS are busily organising this year’s Summer Fair. Monday 30th June will be a MUFTI day where we will be asking for donations of an item matching your child’s house team colour to create hampers for raffle prizes. Children can wear their own clothes and this could include wearing their house colour. Please see attached posters for suggestions of what to send in for your child’s colour on the day.

Orwell Society School Award We are proud to be one of just two schools in the UK that have been awarded the prestigious Orwell Society School Award for 2024–2025. Inspired by George Orwell’s deep love of nature - nurtured during his childhood holidays in Polperro - our exciting project aims to bring the natural world to life for our pupils. With support from local experts and organisations like the National Trust and Cornwall Wildlife Trust, children in years 4-6 have learnt about Cornwall’s unique environments, including Bodmin airfield and even a nearby temperate rainforest. They have transformed their learning into a creative “found” sketchbook, imagined as Orwell’s own, filled with nature notes, detailed drawings, descriptive writing and poetry, all produced by the children. There will be an exhibition of this work, including the “found” sketchbook, in October when the society holds their annual conference in Polperro. Please click here to find out more about the project.

School Uniform Thank you to Mrs Kane who has raised £15 for the school at a nearly new uniform sale recently. We have a large selection of preloved school uniform available for a suggested donation of just £1 per item. While you might have seen a few things on the rail by the school office, there is actually much more available in a range of sizes – plenty of everything! It's a great way to save money, find what you need and help reduce waste. Before heading to the shops, please consider taking a look. Just ask at the office for the size you need. Giving these clothes a second life helps keep perfectly good uniform out of landfill.

MHST SilverCloud Please find attached a poster about free NHS online support for those supporting an anxious child, teen or child diagnosed with ADHD. This is a very busy half term with more exciting events coming up including trips for all classes and the year 6 residential trip to the Ultimate Adventure Centre in North Devon at the beginning of July. These and other important dates are on our events diary on the website.

Have a lovely weekend.

We have had another jam packed week in Landaviddy class.

Practise for the Polperro Festival has been well underway! We can't wait to share with you all our hard work. We finished off our previous enquiry with Geography, where we looked at the different tools meteorologists use to collect weather data. Can you recall what we would use to determine wind direction or rainfall? We have started a new enquiry - 'Does Polperro Always Stay the Same?', which we were already very enthusiastic about.

In Maths, Year 3 have been working on Money, adding and subtracting pounds and pence, ready for their final lesson next week looking at finding change. Year 2 have continued work on fractions, exploring the equivalence of two quarters and one half, as well as recognising and finding three quarters.

Congratulations to Benjamin, Iylah and Brody for being chosen as People of the Week! And a big well done to those who achieved their 99 club!

Please find attached this half term's Knowledge Web, KIRFS and Homework Grid. Of course, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We hope you have a marvellous weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.

We have been busy in Chaipel, this week, preparing for our performance at the Polperro Festival next Tuesday. Our humorous Tudor play captures what we have learnt about the life of Henry VIII and I am sure that the audience will been thoroughly entertained!

ENGLISH
We have completed our balanced argument best copy write-up. It outlines the growing concern and the need to raise awareness on how to do more to fight Climate Change; Chaipel have written some poignant, thought-provoking arguments. Next week, we will be focusing on perfomance poetry, studying the Cornish poet Charles Causley - in line with our Cornish mining enquiry.

MATHS
Y6s are working on a travel project, incorporating a range of skills which are needed to plan a holiday. Y5s have been revisitng multiplying by 10,100,1000 and will be moving onto dividing next week. We are ensuring that core areas of mental maths fluency are embedded in the run-up to their final primary-school year.

WIDER CURRICULUM
Our play perfomances have taken up most of our afternoons, however, we have investigated air resistance in Science. We made paper aeroplanes and then flew them to see which design reduced air resistance the most. We pooled all our skills together in PE for a dodgeball tournament and investigated the history of Cornish mining - creating time line to show the rise a fall of mining in Cornwall.

TRIP
Just a reminder that our class trip to The Box is on Friday (20th). It is in normal school hours but children will need to bring a packed lunch, snack and water bottle.

I have attached our Knowledge Web and homework grid for this half term. Our KIRFs are to practise our times table fluency and children have a range of websites which they can practise on.

That's all for this week so have a lovely weekend.

TALLAND'S CLASS BLOG 13.6.25

What a fabulous week of play practice Talland have had this week. We have been working so hard to learn our lines, project our voices, become our character and sing songs! Lots to remember for lots of up and coming West-End Superstars!

Year 4's have also had a very busy week as they have all completed their Times Table Check Tests and they all did incredibly well. They've been working so hard to remember the times tables and they should be extremely proud of their efforts!

Well done to Zac this week for being noticed by adults for his enthusiasm towards the Polperro Festival Play, and even stepping in to fill in for the roles of needed characters.

Exiting News Update:
We have our trip booked for this term: St. Michael's Mount, which will take place on the Thursday 17th July 2025. This should be an amazing trip and we even get a boat ride AND ice cream! Letters will be coming out next week.

We can't wait to show you our production next week for the Polperro Festival.

That's all from Talland this week. We hope you have an amazing weekend!

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

We have finished exploring space this week with the children finishing differnt craft and creating new ones. This week they have enjoyed making sponge/handprint rockets and painting and decorating their own telescopes to look at the stars.
We have been practicing cutting skills and the children have had fun playing with cardboard boxes and pretending to go to space in their rockets.

These boxes came in especially useful during a phonics activity where the children plpayed a game of "voices in space" where they created different voice sounds to go with different alien characters.
Also during phonics this week, we have explored initial sounds of different space words and the children have joined in with a body percussion activitiy routine.

At story time we have read "Zoom!", "On the moon" and "Rocketmole".

In maths we have continued to compare and sort collections of different objects and materials and counted objects of interest.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Hello Everyone,

As you can see from the picture, we have been continuing to enjoy our ‘Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ stories. This week we have been writing postcards and descriptions of settings. We have also painted a lighthouse for our role play area, and used a paint program on the iPads to draw the story setting.

As part of our enquiry question; ‘What does Cornwall mean to me?’ we have been comparing modern lifeboats with the lifeboat that Grace Darling used in her rescue. Look out for a letter next week, which will give details of a class trip on 1st July,  to Looe island.

Well done to our Year one children, who completed their phonics test this week. They all showed such perseverance and a positive attitude and we are really proud. Well done everyone!

This week, we also welcome Mrs Bates, who will be helping us every morning in Penhallow, while Miss Cullingford is away on maternity leave.

Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome back Landaviddy! And what a great first week back we have had!

On Wednesday, we participated in a pizza making workshop, as part of our learning on cooking and nutrition. We had some practise cutting up the dough and enjoyed choosing our own toppings from the different food groups. We even got to take our pizzas home to eat - which were delicious!

This week, Year 2 have shown excellent perseverance this week by completing their KS1 assessments. You have all tried your absolute best and worked so hard. Well done!

Practise for the Polperro Festival is well underway. Please make sure you continue to practise your lines, dance moves and song at home. We will continue to work hard on this next week!

In Maths, Year 2 have continued their work on fractions, looking at what a unit fraction is. Year 3 have completed developing their reasoning skills when finding a fraction of amount and are eager to start learning on Money next week.

Congratulations to Tommy and Esme for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week and a big well done to those who achieved their 99 club this week.

Hello Everyone!

A short but busy week to begin this final half term.

We have launched our enquiry question: ‘What does Cornwall mean to me?’

In English, we have been writing descriptions of lighthouses, sequencing stories and writing descriptions of characters, all based around the stories of ‘The lighthouse keeper’s lunch’ and ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s breakfast.’ We will continue with these stories next week.

In maths, reception have been busy learning about repeating patterns, and 3D shapes. Year 1 have been enjoying learning about position and direction. We have even used some interesting dance moves as a part of our maths lessons.

We have all been busy learning an ocean themed poem and a song for The Polperrro Festival and we also have some lovely writing to show you.

As well as this, in history, we have been learning about a lighthouse keeper’s daughter called Grace Darling, who bravely rescued people during a storm in her rowing boat.

Have a lovely weekend!
