Easter Break

Dear Parents and Carers

We hope you have enjoyed using the class home learning pages for your child this week while we all get used to the children learning at home.

Staff have been  busy preparing for next term.  After Easter our whole school enquiry for the Summer Term will be:
WHAT'S ALL THAT COMMOTION IN OUR OCEANS?  There are already ideas on the Class pages for those who can't wait to get started.

Please check this Head's Blog for whole school updates and the Class pages for links to your child's teacher and learning.

We are looking forward to working with parents and carers to ensure your child's learning continues while the school is closed.

Wishing you a Happy Easter.

Stay safe

From all of the staff at Polperro Primary Academy

A Wish for the World

Chaipel Class became recording artists today when they visited the Trust's Head Office.  They sang the song they had written about climate change, A Wish for the World.  The recording will feature on a CD along with songs from other Bridge Schools.  Well done Chaipel - your voices were amazing!

Sporting Success

Congratulations to our football team who played well to win their first match of 2020 5:3 against St Cleer.  Our netball team was equally successful in their first game of the league.  As defending champions they got off to a brilliant start beating Duloe 5:3.

Cross country runners competed on  Friday at Lanhydrock with Alex and Charlie coming a very respectable 5th and 7th in their qualifier race.  Well done to everyone who entered.

Looe Community Fun Event

Free Half Term Event

The Looe Community Fun Event is on 18th February from 10-1pm at the Looe Family Hub on the Barbican.  Amongst other fun activities, there will be a demonstration from Fire Investigation Dogs Woodie and Archie, and a magician.

Everyone a Reader

We have been promoting reading across our school this term by inviting visitors to read to classes, listen to readers and to talk about why they read.  Killigarth and Nursery had a visit from a fireman who read them 'Flashing Fire Engines' by Tony Milton.  He explained that firemen need to read to find out where to go when there is a fire.

Fred in this photo is a PAT dog who loves to listen to readers.  He visited Talland class as part of their enquiry - 'What's the Point of Dogs?' and then he listened to readers in Penhallow Class.  Thank you Mr Hewitt for bringing him in.

Snuggle up with a Story in Key Stage 1

Children in years 1 and 2 have a new reading activity to share at home. Each week one child per year group will be lent a red suitcase full of goodies for the weekend.  In it they will find a book, a sachet of hot chocolate, some biscuits, a cute soft teddy and a notebook.  Their challenge is to snuggle up with a story, drink and a biscuit and read the book to themselves or a grown up.  After the reading the book they are asked to leave a comment in the notebook about it for others to read.

Enjoy your reading Penhallow Class!

Year 4 Bikeability

Following on from Year 6's success with Bikeability last term it was year 4's turn last week.  They took on challenges in the playground to pass their level 1 which teaches children to control and master a bike by encouraging and developing basic cycle control skills and giving them the confidence to use their cycles more often.

During their time at Polperro, pupils have the opportunity to cycle at beginning with balance bikes in reception class.  By year 6 we hope they can pass their level 2.  Children from year 4 onwards who would welcome more practice in order to boost their confidence have the opportunity to do the Learn to Ride course before taking their Level 1.

Questions for 2020

Happy New Year to everyone.  We look forward to an exciting time at school in 2020 beginning with a range of fascinating enquiry questions for classes to answer over the coming weeks as follows:

What Happened in London a Long Time Ago? Killigarth
Where Could Paddington Make his home? Penhallow
How Would you Survive the Tribe? Landaviddy
What’s the Point of Dogs? Talland
When was the Best Time to be a Child? Chaipel

Dog Smart Assembly

Stacy from the Dog's Trust led an assembly yesterday where she shared essential safety tips and advice with pupils about how to stay safe around dogs and how to ensure that dogs stay safe and happy too.

With the help of her dog Midnight, the children practised asking a dog owner if it was alright to stroke their dog.   Everyone was sent home with a really useful leaflet which explains how to be 'Dog Smart'.

Admission arrangements consultation for 2021/22

On behalf of Polperro Primary Academy, Bridge Multi-Academy Trust is consulting on their admission arrangements for 2021/22. ‘Admission arrangements’ are part of the process used to offer parents a place for their child at the school of their choice. In particular they are used if there are more applications than available spaces at the school. The proposed admission arrangements can be viewed or downloaded from the Trust’s website www.bridgeschools.co.uk/admissions or please ask at Reception for a copy.

If you wish to comment on our proposals, then please send your response in writing to enquiries@bridgeschools.co.uk or by post to Enquiries at Bridge Schools, Higher Trebyan, Lanhydrock, Bodmin PL30 5DQ. The closing date for any responses to this consultation is 31 January 2020.
