Talented Talland's Weekly Blog

Here's to the end of our first full week of term - what a fantastic week it's been! We've continued to dive deeper into our enquiry question: WHY ARE RAINFORESTS IMPORTANT?

In Geography, we have discovered where rainforests are located - ask your child - do they remember? Clue: They're located in countries near a very hot imaginary line that travels across the middle of our planet...
Also, we have been investigating predators, plants and creepy crawlies which reside in these kingdoms of green.

In PE, we've been back in the pool and dodge, ducking, diving and dodging some more in dodgeball - this sport is so much fun! We've also been racking up the miles around our mile track. As you can see, Talland Class is full of speedsters (they might of over done it)!

In Maths, we've continued with our Place Value unit by looking at how to partition numbers and representing this using part-whole models and number sentences.

We've just completed our poetry unit in writing. Reading Talland's poems today blew me away. The children have worked so hard to create some real masterpieces all about their favourite things.

We began our class read for this term, 'The Explorer'. It's had a fast paced beginning where we've been thrown into action. Three children have been left stranded in a  rainforest after their plane crashed. What kind of crazy adventures will they get up to? Will they be safe? Will they be saved? Ask your child for regular updates...

Congratulations to Sienna, Kora and Thomas for being Talland's People of the Week.

Homework
Reading
All the children have been sent home with a new reading book at the end of last week. So many of you have already been reading at home! Please make sure you are reading daily. Keep up the great work!

Maths
It would be fantastic for you to practice your times tables and number bonds. Mathletics and TT Rockstars can be accessed at home and support this. If you do not have access to a device for this, please do not hesitate to let me know and I will happily provide you with resources. This is also the case for the KIRF links that was sent out last week.

Homework will be sent out next week based around our enquiry question - these will be fun and engaging activities to boost your child's confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm about rainforests.

We hope you have a brilliant weekend!

Over and out from Mr Langley, Mr Bishop and Mrs Hodge.

WELCOME, TALLAND CLASS OF 2023/24!

Wow, what an incredible first week back to school we have had! Everyone has settled in amazingly well (including myself)!

We have had lots of fun finding out about what we all have in common – there’s lots! We have created our class charter to make sure that we all feel comfortable and confident in our learning environment.

We have been getting mathematical and used resources to help us understand place value.

We have been getting poetic during our writing lessons.

We have been getting wet in our PE lessons.

We have had lots of fun!

School Council

Congratulations to Hamish (Y5) and Isaac (Y4) for being elected our class School Council representatives. I am sure that they will do a fantastic job at getting all our voices heard. Talland class were so supportive and full of positive energy when the results were revealed – it was lovely to see.

Important information

PE kits should be complete and in every day. The children can take them home for washing at the end of each half term. At present, the swimming pool is still open, so swimming kits should come in daily as we will go in the pool if the weather permits us to. PE for Talland class will be on Monday (swimming) and Tuesday so please could you ensure your child is prepared and ready for this with the appropriate kit.

On Friday, your child went home with their KIRFs (Key Instant Recall Facts) for this half term. This is part of their homework which we will give you more information on, on next week's blog.

Our Wider Curriculum focus this half term is, WHY ARE RAINFORESTS IMPORTANT? This enquiry is already live and kicking and we’ve had good fun completing a ‘Kahoot’ quiz based on the rainforest, and we’ve delved into what we want to find out! We will upload the Knowledge Web next week so that you can see what the children will be learning these next few weeks. EXCITING TIMES!

That's all for now! I hope you have all had an amazing weekend and I can’t wait for this week to begin!

Over and out from Mr Langley, Mr Bishop and Mrs Hodge.
