It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at the Polperro Festival on Tuesday. Thank you for coming and being part of a really special day. Please see the class blogs for photos.
The children have had a busy, sporty week, doing each activity for the Bridge School Games (will we win again this year?) and practicing for Sports Day which is next Monday morning (26th June) from 10-12:00. We look forward to seeing you there. Please come into the school via the field gate. There will be chairs in place for spectators.
Parent Survey
We would be very grateful if you could spare a few minutes to share your views by completing the following Parent Survey as this will help us to continue to improve.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Hillman
This has been a very busy week with rehearsals for the Polperro Festival and swimming lessons for all classes. On Monday, years 4-6 had a visit from Cornwall Libraries and the Cornish Caretakers whose performance and workshop were stuffed full of facts about Cornish History which support the children’s wider curriculum enquiry. On Wednesday the first produce was picked from the garden. Ivy picked 3 courgettes which were cooked to perfection by our cook, Sue, and shared with Chaipel Class. There will be plenty of produce to pick and share with all of the children very soon.
Polperro Festival Parade
Reminder that children and families are invited to attend the opening parade tomorrow to celebrate the first day of the festival. Families are invited to meet outside Polperro Village Hall at MIDDAY in preparation for a 12:30pm start. Please come dressed in colourful clothes/outfits – as bright and cheery as possible.

Mrs Hillman
This half term has got off to a good start already with most of the children having been in the swimming pool this week. Penhallow Class will have their first turn next week. Thank you for sending your children in with their kit.
We celebrated World Environment Day on Monday with a special assembly and began our Cornwall-related enquiries. The whole school is looking at ‘What does Cornwall mean to me?’ with Chaipel Class focusing on ‘How has mining shaped Cornwall?’ As part of their enquiries, all of the children will be having art lessons from Sean Hewitt, a local artist and teacher, who will be focusing on printing.
Garden Update and Herb Tasting
Everything is growing really well in the greenhouse thanks to hard work by the children. We have courgettes and cucumbers ready to eat and the tomatoes, sweetcorn and potatoes are doing really well. The herbs the children planted are ready for tasting. Please let the office know if you are not happy for your child to taste the herbs as part of their lessons. Please see head’s blog for photos.
Polperro Festival The children have been auditioning for the individual performance slots at the Polperro Festival this week. We have been blown away by their talent and look forward to them performing on the school’s day on 20th June.
Ice Pop Fridays
Thank you for supporting us with this fundraiser. We have raised £50 so far and will continue every Friday until the end of term (£1 per pop). Watch this space for what we will be spending the funds on for our school.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Hillman
What a lovely, sunny final week of this half term. We have had fun on our newly installed mile-a-day track on the playground. The children need to follow the footprints and do 20 laps to run 1 mile. Well done to Ivy for running the first lap on Wednesday.
Active Every Day
We continue our endeavour to improve fitness and enjoyment of exercise by getting the children and staff to become as active as possible. Each day the children engage in some form of physical activity – whether this be a PE session or a mile run. Please ensure the children have their named PE kit in every day. They will also need their swimming kit in from Monday 5th June.
Keltique Choir Concert –change of date. Please note that the date of our Choir Concert with Keltique has been moved back to Monday 26th June so that it does not clash with the year 6 parent visit to Looe Community Academy on the 27th. Please contact the office if this change of date means you are your child are no longer able to attend.
North Cornwall Rocks
Please see attached a flyer for North Cornwall Rocks containing information and useful guides for places to visit during half term.
Ice Pop Fridays
Reminder that we will be selling ice pops after school at the main gate every Friday until the end of term to raise extra funds for the school. Please send your child in with £1 or bring £1 along when you pick them up if you would like to buy one.
Have a wonderful half term. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 5th June at 8:40.
Mrs Hillman
What an exciting week with some good weather, finally.
Landaviddy Class took their
learning into the garden and successfully made popcorn on the fire as part of their English
lesson. Year 5 had an outdoor learning day where they made shelters, cooked apple chunks
on fires they had built and created maps of an island out of natural materials. Lunchtime playtimes are now on the field so please remember to send your child in with a
hat and suncream each day.
Swimming Update
We have had some new changing rooms built to replace the tired old ones (hooray). These
are very nearly finished and we hope to have the pool up and running immediately after half
term. Your child’s swimming kit should be in every day after half term as we will use the
pool as often as we can when the weather is fine. Please ensure their kit (swimming
costume/trunks, towel, waterproof bag, swimming hat) is all labelled with their name. We
have swimming hats for sale, £3.00 each. Please call or email the office once you have
purchased on ParentPay. Pupils who attend alternative sports club should have their kit in
on Tuesdays as they may have a swim during this session.
Polperro Festival Programme Cover Competition
Last week, the children each designed a cover for this year’s Polperrro Festival Programme.
The standard of design was fantastic which made choosing winners a difficult task.
Congratulations to our overall winner, Ivy who was presented a winner’s certificate by the
Mayor. All of the designs will be displayed
at the festival on Big Green during festival week.
Memory Café Choir
Well done to the members of our choir who sang beautifully at the Memory Café at the
Chapel in Polperro this afternoon.
Ice Pop Fridays
We will be reintroducing the very popular ice pop Fridays from Friday 26th May. We will be
selling ice pops after school at the main gate every Friday from next week until the end of
term to raise extra funds for the school. Please send your child in with £1 or bring £1 along
when you pick them up if you would like to buy one.

Thank you to the people from the community and the Chapel who raised money to provide a coronation mug for the children of Polperro. These were offered to the children today after our end of week celebration assembly by ladies representing the Chapel, including Jack G’s Grandma.
This Monday is a bank holiday and we look forward to seeing the children back in school on Tuesday 9th May.
Have a lovely long weekend.
Mrs Hillman
Sun Safety With bank holidays coming up and hopefully some good weather, we have this week had an assembly on staying sun safe. Attached is a list of 5 top tips to help keep young people safe in the sun, put together by Macmillan Cancer Support, which we shared with the children. Please ensure your child comes into school after the bank holiday with a sun hat and sun cream (at least factor 30.) If you have any spare sun hats which your child has outgrown, please send them in so we have spares in school.

Welcome back. I hope you have had a lovely Easter break.
We are excited to announce a new garden project that we set up with the help of a £300 grant from
Caterlink. We plan to grow a variety of vegetables in our school garden that will be used in our
school dinners. Pupils who bring in packed lunches will of course be welcome to enjoy any produce
too.
Over the Easter break we have organised the garden and the greenhouse which the community
kindly raised money for and we are now ready to start in earnest. We believe that this project will
not only help provide our pupils with a healthy and nutritious diet but also help to promote
sustainability and environmental awareness. By growing our own vegetables, we will be reducing
our carbon footprint.
We aim to involve the children in the project as much as possible, giving them the opportunity to
learn about gardening, healthy eating, and environmental sustainability. With pupils we have
planted a range of seeds already (tomatoes, peppers, spring onions, sweetcorn, herbs…) and have
early potatoes ready to plant this week in the tyres (see photograph). Pupils will be invited to taste
what is grown so please email secretary@polperroprimary.co.uk if for any reason you are not happy
for your child to do this.
We would also like to invite parents and carers to join us in this project. We welcome any support
and contributions that you can offer, whether it be in the form of gardening expertise or
volunteering time to help us maintain the garden or perhaps donating some bedding plants to
brighten up the tubs in front of the school.
We hope that this project will be a success, and we look forward to seeing the fruits (and vegetables)
of our labour in the school dinners. We will keep you updated on our progress throughout the
project. We also plan to sell tomato plants as soon as they are ready to raise more funds so please
watch this space.
Thank you for your support.
Mrs Hillman
What a fun end to another great week!
Thank you for sending your children in today in their multi-coloured clothes. We had a huge amount of fun in school today and at the time of writing we have raised over £160 for Comic Relief from your generous donations.
Cross Country Success
The Polperro team did brilliantly well in last week’s Landrake Inter Schools Cross Country Race. They all had smiles on their faces ahead of the 3.2 mile run, and they were still smiling when they got back but with a few splashes of mud and wet feet to prove they had all done it! Jazz was the first girl back and the Polperro Girls’ team of Jazz, Chloe and Eloise was the winning girls’ team! Amazing effort all round, well done Team Polperro.
Thank you to Claire Dewe for her wonderful race reports this season and to parents and carers for transporting our runners to each race come rain or shine.
Parent Consultations
We are looking forward to seeing many of you in school next week for parent consultations. If you are attending in person, please come 10 minutes early so that you have time to look at your child’s books. There is still time to book a slot if you have not done so. Please call 01503 272249 or email secretary@polperroprimary.co.uk
School Discos
Reminder that we will be holding school discos on Thursday 30th March, the last day of the Spring term, to raise money for school. Tickets are on sale in the office and cost £2. The disco for Reception, Year 1 and year 2 will be from 3:30-4:45. Pupils should bring a change of clothes and will be able to change after school. KS2 children (years 3 to 6) should go home at the usual time of 3:15pm and then return to school for their disco which will be from 5-6:30pm.
Easter Time2Move Holiday Programme
Please find attached information regarding the Easter Time2Move Holiday Programme which aims to support families during the school holidays to ensure children have access to fun activities, healthy food and physical activity and to address those particular challenges for some families because of increased costs such as food, childcare and reduced income. It brings together providers across Cornwall who put on a wide range of diverse activities that are fully funded for those eligible for benefits related to free school meals but available to all children aged 5 to 16.
Have a lovely weekend.
