Pausing for Pudsey

We have had a fun day in school today dressed in pyjamas raising money for Children in Need.

Thank you everyone for dressing up and bringing in your £1 donations and copper coins. We have raised well over £100.

Plastic Free Schools - the Journey Begins

We have held the first meeting of our Plastic Free Schools Group which has been set up to encourage the school to take action on single use plastics.

At the meeting, the group of ten pupils agreed to help the school on its journey to plastic free status and signed themselves and the school up to the 'plastics revolution' .

Plastic Free Schools is a pupil led initiative set up by Surfers Against Sewage designed to guide schools through the process of  ditching single-use plastic. Through running this programme, we hope to give pupils the power to create positive, lasting environmental change.

There are five objectives for the school to follow in order to reach Plastic Free Schools Status. The group's first step will be to look at what plastics are in and around the school that aren’t necessary, and to think of ways to replace them. Watch this space for what we find.

Chaipel: First League Winners

Attendance

League competition

The first winners of our attendance league are Chaipel Class whose attendance for the first half term of the year was the highest in the school and above the 96% we are aiming for.  School Council decided that the prize should be a treat decided by the class and Chaipel Class are going to have a class celebration one afternoon soon.

Win a Bike

Our annual  ‘prize draw’ is in place which all children who attend school for a whole calendar month are entered into. That’s 11 chances to win per year, culminating in July with the child whose name is drawn out winning a bike and helmet up to £150.

Autumn Art Afternoon

 Autumn Creativity

Thank you to all parents, grandparents and carers who joined in with our Autumn Art Afternoon activities recently. Our KS1 and Reception children created some fantastic tree pictures and leaf sun catchers. In Chaipel class everyone enjoyed making a range of creatures, out of conkers leaves and cones. The challenge in Talland Class was to create a wreath from autumn resources which led to some impressive designs. Autumn mobiles were designed and made from sticks, apples, wool, hydrangea flowers and cones in Landaviddy class with intricate designs created by talented parents!

School Open Morning

Looking for a Primary School for September 2020?

Polperro Primary Academy is a happy and thriving school for children age 2-11 years and is often described as 'somewhere special' by visitors, parents and children alike. The school was rated good by Ofsted in June this year and the report noted that ‘…all pupils are warmly welcomed, feel safe and secure and can excel.’

With 128 children aged 2 - 11, we offer the ideal transition from nursery to primary education and attract children throughout Looe, Pelynt, Polperro and neighbouring villages. With fantastic academic results, we are very proud of our School and invite you to find out more by coming along to our Open Morning on Tuesday 15th October (9.30 to 11.30am), where you can meet our Head of School and staff and have a tour of the School by one of our Year 6 pupils.

We have wonderful staff and facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool, and we look forward to meeting you soon. To arrange an appointment, simply call us on 01503 272 249 or drop-in on the day.

We Are Curious

Our Enquiries

We have started the term off with a range of exciting enquiry questions to get the children thinking.

Killigarth Class have been asking "Why Am I Amazing?"

Penhallow Class wants to know "What Makes Me Special?" while Landadviddy Class has been asking "Is the Force With You?"

Talland  Class have been  considering "What does Being Healthy mean to You?" while Chaipel Class have been grappling with the question "What is so bad about Natural Disasters?"

The children are looking forward to sharing their answers with you later in the term.

Lunchtime Golden Tickets

Congratulations to the first children to be given a Golden Ticket by their peers for their outstanding behaviour.  The ticket allows them to sit at the golden ticket table at lunchtime.  This week we talked about how school was going and shared jokes such as  'What has 4 legs but cannot walk?' 'A table.'   Thank you all for your company and  for making us laugh!

Welcome to the New School Year

This has been a short week but nevertheless the children  have been very busy in their classes getting to know new routines, new friends and staff.  The children have settled quickly and a visitor to our first assembly commented on how exemplary behaviour was and how happy the children are here.  Year six have been creating a fair set of rules for playing football on the playground, the first of which is 'We will try to make football fun for everybody who wants to play.' I am sure they will.

Our new after school club has got off to a great start with the children enjoying the soft play (see photo) and a tasty snack.  If you would like your child to attend, please let Mrs Joslin know at the beginning of the day.

Beano Joke Experts Visit the School

Talland Class had a visit from the Beano Joke Experts on Tuesday 9th July, whose job it is to analyse why things are humorous. The purpose of their visit was to determine why Talland Class is so uncommonly funny.

The class spent the day learning joke creation, how to use sound effects, how to use comedy walks and laughs among many things. They shared this with the rest of the school in a comedy assembly. This photo shows the 'deadpanners' managing to keep straight faces while the audience told their funniest jokes.

It was a fantastic and memorable day with lots and lots of laughs.

At the end of the assembly the whole school recited 'The Pledge':

I promise to turn the frowns around
To raise the spirits when someone's down
To make up jokes for everyone
One for all and all for FUN!
