Last week Polperro Children took part in the first ever Bridge Schools Games. They really enjoyed the events and everyone gave it their best. The children competed in five events against the 14 Bridge schools (2200 children in total) and I am absolutely delighted to let you know that Polperro School came 1st! We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to being presented with the trophy very soon. Congratulations to Darite for second place and Trenode (3rd Place) and to all of the other schools.
Sports Day is on Monday 4th July, starting at 10:00 am and ending at 12:00. The forecast looks good so here’s hoping the sun shines and we can enjoy a proper sports day this year with parents and carers present to cheer everyone on. Please ensure your child has their PE kit and a sun hat and sunscreen and a water bottle on the day.
Ice Pop Friday
We will be selling ice pops after school at the main gate every Friday from next week until the end of term to raise extra funds for the school. Please send your child in with £1 or bring £1 along when you pick them up if you would like to buy one.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Hillman
This has been such a busy week. It was great to see so many of you at the School’s festival day on
Tuesday. We are very proud of the way the children performed and have been delighted with your
kind feedback about the children’s wonderful performances. Thank you.
We had even more excitement yesterday with a visit from the Squashbox Theatre Company, kindly
funded by the Polperro Arts Foundation. After a performance ‘Tales from the Trees’ which had the
children (and staff) in stitches, Landaviddy Class and Penhallow enjoyed puppet-making workshops.
In addition to swimming lessons, the children have enjoyed participating in the first ever Bridge
Schools Games all week. They have also had art lessons from Sean Hewitt in preparation for
creating a school mural.

The parent questionnaire is open now and will close in a fortnight at 4pm on Friday 8th July and we

Dear Parents and Carers

An invitation with further details will be sent out later in the week. The exhibition will then run on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday (11:00 – 5:00 daily).
Book Shares
As our last parent consultations were held online, we were unable to share the children’s work with you. This term we will be inviting parents from each class for half an hour at the end of the day over the coming weeks so that the children can share their work with you and show you their classroom. Dates are as follows:
Penhallow: Monday 16th May 2:30pm
Talland: Wednesday 18th May 2:45pm
Chaipel: Monday 23rd May 2:45pm
Landaviddy: Thursday 9th June 2:50pm
We look forward to welcoming you in. If these dates are not convenient, please contact school and we will endeavor to make alternative arrangements.
Water Bottles
As a Heathy School we encourage children to drink water throughout their day at school. We would prefer that your child’s water bottle contains water only, to encourage healthy habits. This also helps us when there is a spill as water doesn’t stain! If there is a reason why your child cannot drink water please let you child’s teacher know. Please note that this applies to their classroom drinks and not to their lunchtime drinks.
End of half term Platinum Jubilee Picnic
Parents and carers are invited in to school at 2pm on the last day of half term, Friday 27th May to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee. Please join us on the school field from 2pm (entry via the field gate) and bring an afternoon tea picnic and a rug for you and your children. The children will join you for the picnic after singing to you first. There will be traditional games run by the children and a we will be running a raffle and chocolate tombola in aid of the school. If you would like to donate raffle prizes, these would be very welcome. Please send them into school with your child. Children, Staff and Parents are invited to wear red, white and blue on the day.
Friday 20th May - Mufti Day for the Jubilee Picnic Chocolate Tombola
Please send a chocolate item on the day. This will be put into the tombola for the Jubilee Picnic and children can wear non-uniform.
Swimming
We hope to see some warmer weather very soon so please send your child’s swimming kit in, if you haven’t already.
Best wishes
Mrs Hillman
Dear Parents and Carers
It was so lovely to see you all yesterday for our Easter concert. I’m sure you will agree that the children sang beautifully. Along with funds raised by the nursery earlier in the week, we have raised over £280 for Shelterbox.
Upcoming Events
After Easter, we will be inviting you into school at last (hooray!) to share the children’s work. Planned for the summer term we have a whole school literacy-related Beach Day (funded by the Polperro Arts Foundation); a whole school Day of Dance; an art exhibition of the work the children have produced with local artist Sean Hewitt, and the Polperro Festival School’s day. Further details about these events and more will follow in our weekly update letters.
Clubs
Clubs will continue immediately after Easter on the same days as this half term.
Year Six SATS club will continue as usual (8:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Guitar Lessons
Apologies to those who brought their guitars in on Wednesday. The final lesson for this term was actually last week. Next term’s lessons will start on Wednesday 27th April.
Staying Safe Online
We are aware that some of our children have accessed social media sites (outside of school) which on the surface appear innocent due to the art style, but underneath it all are not. Many contain sexually explicit or violent images. Please be aware that 'Free team manga', 'free team anime' 'hiischooldxd' and 'henti' are not suitable for children to access. You may wish to look at this online safety guide https://www.internetmatters.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Internet-Matters-online-safety-Age-Guide-6-10s.pdf
which covers the steps you can make to establish positive behaviour online and how you can teach your child to stay safe.
Easter Egg Hunt
Our very own Easter Bunny visited school this morning and handed out eggs to the children. The Polperro Easter Egg Hunt taking place on Sunday 17th April from 11:00 am. Starting at 'Coffee, Cake, Create' there are 12 eggs to find around the village and prizes can be claimed from the Museum Tearoom.
Have a wonderful Easter break and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 25th April.

Dear Parents and Carers
What a busy couple of weeks we have just had. With the better weather more of the learning has been outside. Reception have demonstrated their skills during their balance bike sessions on the playground; the RNLI has visited us to hold an assembly about how to stay safe on the beach; Talland Class has experimented with wattle and daub in the school garden and Year 6 have come back from an enjoyable residential in Carnyorth where among many challenging activities they cycled, climbed and did archery.
Cross Country
Congratulations to our cross country runners who shared their successes in our celebration assembly today. Those who completed at least 3 races have been awarded medals for the league. Well done also to Jazz for winning first place in the Landrake Fun Run (Y5/Y6 girls) and 3rd place overall for Y5/Y6 girls in the cross country league.
Parent Consultations
Please remember to sign up for parent consultations which are being held next week.
Ukraine
A reminder that next Thursday (7th April) at 2:30 you are invited to come and listen to our pupils sing together in the playground before you collect your children at the end of the day. A maximum of 2 people per family should attend please. At the end of the performance we will be collecting funds for Shelterbox based in Helston. Your support will provide lifesaving aid for families affected by the Ukraine crisis. Please support us with whatever you can afford. On the day, pupils should come in wearing uniform; however they are welcome to also wear something yellow and blue (the colours of the Ukrainian flag) eg socks, a scarf, a hairband. We will deal with any discussions which may arise from this fundraiser in a sensitive and age appropriate way.
Easter Holiday Wild Tribe Activities Attached to this blog, is a flyer regarding Wild Tribe Easter activities which are taking place at Callington Community College 10am to 2pm on Monday 11th to Thursday 14th April.

After more cycling, den building and fire making yesterday afternoon, everyone was starving and had spaghetti bolognaise followed by syrup sponge and custard for dinner. The food has been amazing: One of the group said "I've never tried this before, (pudding) I love it!" and went back for seconds. Everyone then enjoyed a little karaoke with Zane really stepping up to the mark to sing the Polperro School song. The children were not impressed however with Mrs Visick's performance of Wham's Wake me up before you go, go!
After breakfast the drew their favourite time at Carnyorth then packed the bus before archery and climbing. Some of the children really challenged themselves and reached the top of the wall. The reward was to make the toy squeak! In archery there were some amazing, accurate shots and even some bullseyes.
This afternoon the children walked up to the mast, had lunch then listened to a story about the area - passed down through the generations - about two miners.
The final photo of the staff speaks for itself! They, like the children, have been amazing on this trip.
I'm sure the children will be tired but happy when you collect them later at 5pm.

Everyone was asleep by 9:00 last night! This morning the children have had breakfast and made their own lunches, ready for later.
Today the children will be mountain biking, den building and fire building. The staff at the centre have advised against the beach day because of the cold weather and easterly wind.
The first group went mountain biking to the engine houses where Poldark was filmed. The children had to dig deep and challenge themselves across some difficult terrain. They all showed resilience and rose to the challenge. Staff were really proud of them.
Group 2 were den building and making fires and then toasting marshmallows..
The groups will swap after lunch.

After a good journey, Year 6 arrived at the centre.
This afternoon they walked the coast path for 6k playing Miners' Cluedo' . They climbed in and out of engine houses and learned all about the lives of the people who worked in the mines. They also played sardines in the tunnels under the watchful eye of the wonderful Polperro and Cornwall Outdoors staff.
Judging by the smiles on the photos and the really positive comments from Mrs Visick when we spoke earlier, they are having a great time.
I will post more photos tomorrow.
